Every state plus the District of Columbia protects Service Animals in training.  If you live in Hawaii, Wyoming or Washington, Service Animals need to be trained to qualify as a Service Animal.    We work with those who want to adopt/foster so they can train the dog to be a Service Animal.  Once the adopter/foster becomes a member and starts to follow our Service Animal training program the animal becomes a Service Animal in training.

What Does Service Animal Training Require?

Service Animals need to be trained for a specific task to aid the owner, be reasonably well behaved, be vaccinated and be potty trained.  Patience, postive reinforcement and practice are all required.

Who Can Train a Service Animal?

Anyone can train a dog to be a Service Animal.  The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that any person can train a Service Animal.  They ruled this so every day people who need a Service Animal can afford a Service Animal.  Service Animals do not need to cost $1000s or require 1000s of hours of training.

Service Animal Owner Qualifications

To qualify for a Service Animal, you must have either a mental or physical condition that can or does interfere with at least one aspect of your life.  Having anxiety issues or suffering from depression in the past qualifies you to have a service animal.   You do not need an official diagnosis from a healthcare provider.  All medical history related to owning a Service Animal is HIPPA protected and completely private.

Service Animal Qualifications?

Under the ADA, Title II and III, a Service Animal must be a dog (or miniature horse) that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability.  The dog must be reasonably well behaved and potty trained.
