U.S. VETERANS

U.S. Veterans in Need - Deserve a Service Animal.
Together, we can help veterans and save dogs.
16.1 million veterans in the US.   Providing a Service Anima to 4% of those veterans who need one can turn the US into a no-kill country.
Demand Outstrips Supply:
The need for service dogs, particularly for veterans with PTSD, is significant, but the number of service dogs available is limited.
Limited Resources:
Training and providing service dogs can be expensive, and organizations that specialize in this area may have limited resources.
VA Support:
While the VA doesn’t provide service dogs directly, they do coordinate with partner organizations that train and provide them.
Benefits of Service Dogs:
Service dogs can provide significant support to veterans, helping them manage symptoms of PTSD, improve sleep, reduce medication needs, and enhance overall well-being.

Nearly 50% of US Veterans experience Mental Health issues.

A significant percentage of US veterans experience mental health issues. Studies indicate that a substantial portion of veterans, ranging from 38% to 43%, have a mental health diagnosis or experience symptoms. This number likely doesn’t capture all cases, as many undiagnosed or untreated conditions exist.

NIH study demonstrates Service Animal Benefit for US Veterans

The first National Institutes of Health-funded clinical trial of its kind, published in JAMA Network Open, links the pairing of service dogs with military Veterans to lowered PTSD severity, diagnosis odds, and other negative mental health symptoms. The study, released in time for National PTSD Awareness Month in June, is also the largest national study to date comparing Veterans and service dog teams to usual care alone for PTSD-afflicted Veterans.
